The UGA Ballet Ensemble (UGABE), founded by Artistic Director Joan Buttram in 1993 is a pre-professional dance company that performs contemporary and classical works in department showcases, main-stage concerts and on tour at regional/national/ international sites. Company membership requires strict adherence to contract obligations and a strong commitment to the highest standards in rehearsal and performance. Availability for rehearsal (2 hours 2Xs a week 4-6) is a requisite! A flexible schedule for weekend rehearsals allows for inclusion in guest artist’s choreography. Membership requires that dancers enroll and train EACH semester in a DANC technique course AND Pointe/Pas de Deux or for men – individualized weight training AND Pas de Deux. Full company membership is available for 2 credits per semester and apprentice membership is available for 0-1 credit per semester. Commitment to both Fall and Spring semester membership is required. Performance opportunities for UGABE members include the department’s Spring Dance Concert 2015, Audition Showings each semester, main-stage performances for DanceAthens, The Safe Project and Atlanta’s BalletFest as well as touring to perform at dance conferences such as the Alabama Dance Festival, the Tennessee Association of Dance, and the American College Dance Festival.
